NORTH Yorkshire golfer Simon Dyson will see a specialist on Monday after his long-standing wrist injury forced him out of the Spanish Open in Barcelona.

The 37-year-old will undergo an MRI scan and hold discussions with manager Chubby Chandler before deciding whether to have surgery.

York-born Dyson struggled with the injury as he carded a two-over par 74 in round one, and the problem flared again at the start of round two today.

Having bogeyed the opening three holes at the Real Club de Golf El Prat, Dyson endured a double-bogey six at the fourth hole before withdrawing from the tournament.

Said to be "gutted" at having to pull out, Dyson reported that he was unable to fully commit to his shots due to the pain in his wrist.

More than a month of rest and physiotherapy in the run up to the Spanish Open failed to fix the problem, so surgery is now the likely route and that could rule him out of action for several months.
