STARTING with a bang, York Tennis Club posted victories for all their five teams in the new IT Sports Mixed Tennis League campaign.

Andy Cooke made a welcome return after missing the whole of 2014 and new player Jeroen Van Der Zant was unbeaten in partnership with Becky Lee in division one against promoted Wetherby.

Neil Giltrap and Anne Jackson were the winning combination for York in a close game at David Lloyd in division two in a well matched fixture.

Newly promoted Heworth were just edged out by Fulford. Tom Craddock and Jill McCreedy won all three sets but were just outscored by Nigel Skelton and Laura Swettenham.

Sutton-on-Derwent’s Max Los and Lucy Collier were the match winners, remaining unbeaten at home to Stamford Bridge in division three with good support from the unbowed Zak Los and Catherine Davies.

Toby Pratt and Anna Rosenberg won their final rubber 11-1 for Stillington to grab the points against newly-promoted Sherburn.

Cliffe’s unbeaten Joel Hancox and Emma Foster could not prevent their side going down to Bubwith by four games.

The undefeated axis of Neil John son and Sue Pauer led a good Poppleton side against York in division four, but a final 10-2 return from Dave Duffy and Siobhan Gilfillan sealed victory for York.

Luke Blackburn and Rhian Scott were Copmanthorpe’s top scorers in their win at Fulford.

Dunnington’s Dan Hall and Nicola Loten were one of five pairings to score 30 games in the defeat of Riccall.

York’s new players Jack Lewis and Jill La Pla were unbeaten to ensure a win against Bishopthorpe in division five, where Ben Storey and Lorraine Waudby led Wigginton to the points against Cawood.

A high-scoring second round from Rufforth sealed the points against a strong Copmanthorpe side in division six.

Rowntree Park’s Kevin Davison and Sandra Pauw were just too good for Wilberfoss.

Both promoted sides to division eight started with wins. Heworth went to Fulford and, led by unbeaten Andy King and Anne Gray who finished with a 11-1 success, sealed the victory.

Bishopthorpe had a much closer encounter against visitors Appleton Roebuck but captain Alan Wilkinson and Jen Hall won all three rubbers to grab the points.

Top scorers of the week were Cliffe’s Dave Tomlinson and Kate Reader with 31 games in the victory over Wigginton.

New Earswick continued their winning ways in division nine with a resounding success against Dunnington inspired by the unbeaten pairing of Keith Pearson and Nicky Pearson.
