MALTON ‘A’ won the York Conservative Clubs’ Kutters & Shannons Team Snooker Knockout to complete a league and cup double.

The Ryedale side, who retained their Carlsberg UK League title on the last day of the campaign, relied on three black-ball wins to beat Bootham ‘B’ 4-3 in the cup final at Acomb.

Andy Sherry gave Malton a start with a 61-60 win over Lionel Barnes and Roger Ward made it 2-0 with a fluked black to beat Ian Robinson 65-55.

Lee Taylor made an early 62 break, including eight pinks and a blue, and went on to defeat John Wortley 109-76 to make it 3-0 Paul Mahoney reduced the arrears with an aggressive game against Phil Hart, who conceded with the score at 81-48.

Paul Powell made it 3-2 with an 88-54 victory over Dan Pawson which included a break of 25, while Dominic Spiteri held on in a drawn-out frame to win 59-25 against Paul Scorfield to seal the match for Malton.

Andy Proud, runner-up in the league player of the year standings, had his chance to beat Worthington player of the year Steve Beal, but rattled the pink and left two easy pots for the Malton man to win 56-52.

The cup and trophies were presented by sponsor Roy Walker.

Taylor was awarded the Eric Darley Memorial Trophy by John and Mark Darley as the most valuable player in the final for his 62 break.

Heworth’s Clive Whyte won the Pasema Paving highest break award for his 68 break, with Fulford’s Andy Marshall the runner-up with a break of 65.

Sponsor Paul Mahoney made the presentation.

Prior to the cup final, a series of presentations were made.

Malton lifted the league trophy, Beal received the Worthington player of the year award for his 13 wins in 15 games and Bootham were awarded the John Smith’s ‘B’ team cup.

The Slater Cup ‘C’ Team Pairs League trophy went to Heworth, while the John Smith’s 5s & 3s League Cup was won by Fulford.

Acomb won the Carlsberg UK Billiards League, with Heworth’s Gary Rogers winning the Cameo player of the year award and team-mate Darren Clark taking the Cameo highest break prize.

Heworth’s Roy Walker received the Most Dedicated Player Cup.
