NO ONE could accuse evergreen golfer John Miller of being faint-hearted.
For in a stunning new episode to an illustrious amateur career in York, the octogenarian bagged a hole in one within days of leaving hospital after being admitted for what was believed to be a heart attack.
The 81-year-old Fulford Golf Club mainstay was treated in York Hospital after finally being confirmed as having an angina attack.
But soon after being discharged he had club in hand when he competed alongside Fulford GC chief executive Gary Pearce and fellow club-mate Tony Hinder in a day out at Coxmoor GC in Nottinghamshire.
And to the delight of his playing comrades, Miller aced the par-three, 119-yard hole seventh hole using a five iron.
Said Miller's son Jamie, a multi-York Amateur and Open champion: "I went to see him in hospital, where he spent the whole weekend. But then a few days later he told me had gone and got a hole in one. He's just unbelievable."
