RESURGENT York Indoor Bowls Club ladies hit back from losing their first three matches to take third place in the North East League.

A 91-88 victory over North Cave completed a run of three wins and a draw which saw them finish only three points behind champions Doncaster.

At home, Brenda Love, Doreen McCowan, Maggie Pallister and Pauline Armitage saw a 15-12 advantage overturned as they went 19-15 down within the space of three ends.

However, they bounced back to take all but one of the remaining seven ends to win 27-20.

Audrey Micklethwaite, Jenny Darrell, Joan Knight and Barbara Dawson led 9-2 after five ends and kept the advantage to the end as they triumphed 23-18.

Away, Pam Richardson, Sue Jeffrey, Tina Robinson and Pat Potter won the first four ends to lead 8-0. They lost the next three then claimed five of the following seven to lead 19-9 en route to a 25-17 victory.

Maureen Robinson, Margaret Sempers, Jean Williams and Pat Bracken trailed 12-1 but, importantly for the aggregate, they scored a three then a two on the last couple of ends to go down 33-16.

Yorkshire Ladies play their Atherley Trophy semi-final tie against Norfolk on Sunday at the neutral venue of Boston IBC, starting at 12.30pm.

There was disappointment for York in the county knockout competitions, with Dave Dale losing 21-5 in the seniors singles final against Harrogate’s Dave Spilsbury, and Phil Herridge, Phil Parsons and Alan Vowles narrowly missing out after coming from 13-3 down to lose 16-14 in the triples against Jack Bird’s Scarborough team.
