LEADERS Acomb maintained their unbeaten run with a 4-2 victory at Heworth in the York Conservative Clubs' Faber Shield Billiards League.

Heworth won the first two frames as Gary Rogers (55 break) beat Richard Lillie and Darren Clark (40 break) inflicted a first defeat of the season on Mick Borg.

However, Acomb hit back with Dan Potter (49 break) comfortably beating Mark Winskill (40 break), and then Paul Holmes played consistent billiards with breaks of 24, 32 and 33 to seal a good win over Keith Watkinson.

John Ashwell completed the win for Acomb with a battling victory over Brian Birch.

Fulford entertained Bootham, but failed to make home advantage count as they lost 4-2, allowing Acomb to pull 11 points clear at the top with only four games left to play.

Fulford's Jim Lee defeated Colin Robinson 150-119 in the first frame, but Ken Taylor (27 and 25 breaks) hit back, easily beating Wayne Puleston 150-83.

Alan Reed put Fulford back in front with a hard-fought 150-141 victory over Alf Appleby, but Terry Ward's handicap of minus-120 proved too much to pull back and he eventually lost 150-51 to Ian Robinson.

Bootham clinched the last frame 150-142 as Paul Mahoney just prevailed over Jamie Husband.

The Cameo Engraving player of the year competition looks like going to the wire, with Borg's first defeat opening the door for the chasing pack.

He has played eight and won seven - a feat matches by Holmes, while Rogers has won six of his seven games and Reed has six wins from eight games.

Rogers hit a 101 break in a knockout competition win against Alf Appleby - the first century break in the league or cup since his 115 break in 2011.
