CITY of York ladies I hit back from a goal down to claim a point from a 1-1 draw at Lancaster I in the North Hockey League premier division.

After battling through snow, wind and rain to get to Lancaster, City of York put themselves under pressure after they conceded from a short corner in the first ten minutes.

Grit and determination kept them in the game and they had plenty of chances up front, with all of their forwards making their presence felt.

The equalising goal came from a hard strike out from right defence by Frankie Marsh, all the way up to Laura Horne in the attacking circle.

A composed Horne drove the ball into the ‘D’ and played a cheeky slip pass to the left to Katie Birch, who powered the ball home.

The second half was even, with both teams creating some threatening moves.

City of York were reduced to ten players, but they still created plenty of chances to take the lead, but they were denied by the basement side’s keeper.

The remaining City of York ladies teams were thwarted by the weather, while only two of the club’s men’s teams were in action.

City of York V lost 3-0 at fourth-placed Harrogate III in Yorkshire League division four north.

A much-changed City side turned in a good display, showing great spirit and energy, but they were unable to create many opening.

City of York Badgers were beaten 5-1 at Thirsk.

York took the game to Thirsk with good play from ever-present midfielder Anna Good and Zak Per - ryman, at right-back.

After a blank first 20 minutes, York conceded two quick goals in the run up to half-time.

In the second half, York came out battling and stayed in contention thanks to exceptional work from Robert Bradley-Consett and superb saves by keeper Cara Mackay.

Perryman scored a well deserved goal and Jack Allerton led the charge for a second.

However, despite good defensive work from Grace Cahill, York over-committed and Thirsk scored three quick counter-attack goals.

Acomb men’s II crashed 8-2 at table-topping Driffield II in Yorkshire League division five north.

The home side took an early two goal lead and never looked back, making it 5-0 at half-time.

Acomb played some good hockey and scored twice thanks to strikes by skipper Jonny Brown, but they were mere consolation efforts.

Games involving the Tangerines’ men’s first team and the women’s side were postponed.

CITY of York men’s I saw their lead cut to eight points at the top of North Hockey League division one after their game at Harrogate I was postponed.

The leaders will be hoping to be back in action at home to Wakefield II on Saturday.
