ACOMB beat title rivals Fulford 4-2 to consolidate their position at the top of the York Conservative Clubs' Faber Shield Billiards League.

Fulford put up a good fight as they led 2-0 after the first two frames, with Wayne Puleston beating John Ashwell and Tom Lewis, in his first game of billiards, running out a convincing winner over Richard Lillie.

However, Fulford's luck ran out.

Glen Mountain potted Mick Borg's ball and put his ball and the red into baulk to leave him only wanting two points to win.

Acomb's Borg, having to hit one of the two balls to stay in the match, managed to go in off the red, leaving the red over the middle bag.

He then potted the red and followed through to clinch a remarkable victory.

Dan Potter continued his winning ways by beating Terry Ward, and Paul Holmes rounded off the win for Acomb with an unfinished break of 24 in defeating Alan Reed.

The other match saw Bootham gain a 5-1 win over Heworth.

Only Gary Rogers put up any resistance for Heworth as he hit breaks of 55, 47, 41 and 36 in a win over Ian Robinson.

Bootham hit back with good victories for Paul Mahoney over Darren Clark, Matt Smith over Mark Winskill, Alf Appleby against Keith Watkinson and Tim Fillingham over Brian Birch.
