YORK Indoor Bowls Club saw off an expected tricky challenge from Redcar in the Yetton Trophy, winning all four rinks and the game 100-58.

At home, Joan Jackson, June Clayton, Helen Wood and Carol Instone had a 7-5 lead after eight ends before two fours gave them a cushion to confirm a 29-12 success.

Hayley Macdonald, Betty Richardson, Melanie Brooke and Sue Allen led 15-4 after nine ends. A rally by their opponents was spiked with a late single to win 21-19.

In Redcar, York suffered the withdrawal of Helen Walker, who has not lost a game this season.

England International Zoe Eagles took over as skip with Carol Banks leading, Lynda Parker second and Sue Kirkpatrick third. They won all but two of the opening eight ends to lead 13-4.

After a four-shot run by Redcar, York amassed 11 shots over the next four ends to underpin an impressive 28-13 win.

Dot Kennelly, Sheila Turpin, Sue Tomlinson and Linda Harrison were trailing 11-5 after ten ends but came back well to triumph 22-14 buoyed by a six on the 17th end.

York will play Cumbria in the last 16 a week on Saturday.

RESILIENCE was to the fore by York to oust Hartlepool 88-82 in the Egham Trophy.

The away rink of Carol Banks, Melanie Brooke, Graham Brooke and John Harris trailed 24-7 after 16 ends before staging a superb comeback in which they only lost 26-22.

Hayley Macdonald, Sue Allen, Phil Parsons and Phil Emmerson also faced an uphill battle.

They clawed back a 29-12 deficit to lose 30-20.

At home Alan Vowles, Sue Kirkpatrick, Zoe Eagles and Adam Liddell were involved in a tight game where no more than a two was scored on any of the ends. But York were always ahead before clinching an 18-11 success.

A clash in the next round against Lincoln was sealed when Helen Wood, Carol Instone, Paul Mooring and Dave Stroughair built on a 14-0 advantage after seven ends and won 29-15.

YORKSHIRE prevailed over fellow Midlands Counties Seniors pace-setters Durham in the top of the table clash at the New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club.

Tony Horobin’s (Featherstone) rink of Eddie Howcroft (Selby) and two Featherstone team-mates, M Cooney and J Normanton, easily beat R Robinson’s four 32-7.

A Humphreys (York), B Peirson (Thornaby) and New Earswick's Bill Waldie and skip Paul Dawson beat S Blewitt 21-11.

Featherstone’s A Hampshire and B Brotherton teamed up with New Earswick first wood G Lockwood and skip BrianJohnson to beat A Stephenson 28-16.

D Spilsbury (Harrogate) and M Harrison (York) joined Redcar’s third wood T Richardson and skip A Jones to beat D Craig 25-14.

Doncaster trio N Gregory, R Hodgkinson and E Costello joined Harrogate skip R Green in a close match leading all the way only to drop a two at the last end to lose 23-22.

B Carlton (Featherstone), P Parsons (York), P Dibnah (North Cave) and G Brooke (York) in an almost carbon copy of the neighbouring rink led all the way only to drop a three at the last end to lose by the same 23-22.

NEW Earswick IBC were beaten 78-60 by North Cave in the North Eastern Ladies League in a see-sawing tussle.

At home June Barker, Kath Sykes, Lynn Page and skip Norma Davies were 5-0 down after three ends against L Saunders' rink but levelled after five ends. The scores then ebbed to and fro before North Cave won 18-17.

In the other home game Moyra Ellis, Irene Warrington, Sally Domville and Norma Davies came from 7-1 down after four ends to lead 12-9 against M Dykes' rink after nine ends.

But North Cave again produced a fine finish with seven shots including a five at the 20th end to win 24-17.

In the away rinks, Doramy Bellwood, Peggy Walker, Annette Prosser and Margaret Morgan were always in the lead. Despite losing four of the last six ends, they hung on to win 17-13.

In the final game, Kath Hardcastle, Gemma Broadhead. Carol Williams and Moyra Headley were level at 6-6 after seven ends and only 10-8 adrift after 13 ends but only picked up one shot in the last eight to lose 23-9.
