HEWORTH'S Clive Whyte lifted the Les Hawkins Memorial Trophy for the third time with a victory over Malton's Lee Taylor in the final at Bootham.
The individual champions from each of the four York Conservative Clubs competed on finals night, with Lionel Barnes representing the home club against Andy Stone, of Acomb.
Barnes won on the black and was then drawn against Taylor.
Taylor, playing off -30 handicap got off to a good start with a 26 break and continued to control the match, winning 82-52.
The other semi-final was between Whyte, playing off -20 handicap, and Tom Lewis, of Fulford, off a +7 handicap.
Lewis started with red and black but missed an easy red and Whyte took advantage, hitting a 35 break to level the scores.
Both players struggled to make a telling break until Lewis doubled the green and fluked the brown to leave him one behind, but Whyte replied with blue and pink to seal victory.
The final was a cagey affair with safety play resulting in few opportunities to create any notable breaks.
Whyte, in receipt of a ten-point start, managed breaks of 11 and 16, he eventually ran out a 59-26 winner.
