YORK Triathlon Club member Mark Harney won bronze in his age group at the British National Open Biathle Championships at Salford Quays.
Harney competing in masters ‘B’ class, claimed the third place finish in only his second attempt in a biathle - a continuous run, swim and run over the distances of 1,000 metres, 100m and 1,000m.
The result automatically qualified him to represent Team GB Biathle at the Biathle World Championships in Guatemala from October 7 to 12.
However, Harney has chosen not to attend due to other commitments.
He has already represented Team GB this year at the World Duathlon Championships in Spain in May.
“Biathle is a fantastic, fast and fun sport where you get to really race at your maximum speed over relatively short sharp distances,” said Harney.
“Training as a triathlete with the York Triathlon Club allows you to diversify into other sports, because of the varied training you do within it.”
