YORK Triathlon Club are hosting a Splash Dash pilot event to test run new equipment for Triathlon England.

The Splash Dash triathlon will be staged at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park near Pocklington on Wednesday, July 31, at 6.30pm.

It will take the form of a team aquathlon and be run as a three-team relay covering a novice friendly distance of a 400 metre swim followed by a two kilometre run.

Triathlon England, the sport’s national governing body, are developing a new no-frills triathlon project, which they are looking to launch at the beginning of 2014.

The organisation have invested in a low-cost timing system to run alongside the new competition aimed at novices, which will be trialled at the York Triathlon Club event.

Rob Bishop, Triathlon England’s national events manager, said: “We are confident there is a significant demand for events and training sessions that will encourage people into the world of multi-sport competition.

“Critical to the success of this new offer is the support of our existing clubs, event organisers and the new timing system.

“We are grateful to York Triathlon Club for understanding our vision and allowing us to use the new timing band as part of this pilot event.”

Nicky Proctor, of York Triathlon Club, said: “We’re really excited to have been chosen to host this national pilot for Triathlon England.

“York Triathlon Club is a friendly, supportive club that provides sessions to suit all levels of athlete.

“So, this new style of event and its desire to make it easy for people to have a go looks like it could be very popular and I am excited to see how it all unfolds.”

Entry to the event is £10 per person and entrants do not need to have their own team of three as individuals are welcome.

Athletes of all age ranges and abilities are welcome, although the distance covered and the longer term project is aimed at novices.
