Argentinean striker Luciano Becchio scored twice to give Leeds their first victory in seven games.

United beat Oldham, 2-0 for the third time this season after already winning at Boundary Park in both the league and F.A. Cup. Leeds went close on six minutes, after some good work down the right by Andrew Hughes. His cross was meet by Jermaine Beckford but his shot flew wide of the near post.

Oldham packed the defence and midfield in an attempt to stop Leeds playing an expansive game. The referee warned Oldham after nine minutes about their time wasting tactics and by the 24th minute he had booked three Oldham players.

Snodgrass and Doyle both came close to breaking the deadlock before half time, as Leeds played with more pace and energy than in their last two home games.

Leeds were denied a clear penalty went Reuben Hazel pulled back Luciano Becchio with only a couple of minutes remaining in the first half. United started the second half on the front foot and a Robert Snodgrass free kick was well saved by Dean Brill in the Oldham goal.

On 52 minutes Leeds took the lead when Beckford's shot was fumbled by Dean Brill and Becchio tapped in the rebound.

Former United man Sean Gregan became the fourth Oldham player in the referee’s notebook after a cynical body check on Becchio.

The South American striker had the last laugh after some great work by Robert Snodgrass down the left. Snodgrass's cross was meet by the head of Becchio to double United’s lead. Casper Ankergren made his first save of the night on 68 minutes. Former United target Chris Taylor cut in from the left but the big Dane in the Leeds goal pushed the ball behind for a corner.

Substitute Max Gradel almost gave United a third goal but his effort hit the side netting from close range.

Leeds now head to Huddersfield for Saturday's West Yorkshire derby but they will have one eye on Oldham in hope that they can beat league leaders Norwich, who travel to Boundary Park.
