LEEDS United are facing an FA Cup replay after they failed to break down ten-man Northampton Town at Elland Road.

The sides were locked at 1-1 after last night’s first round clash, despite the 26th minute dismissal of Town’s Giles Coke for a second bookable offence.

Coke was booked in the opening minutes of the match for a foul on Ben Parker, and then saw red for a crunching tackle on youngster Fabian Delph.

The visitors were leading at the time after Scott McGleish converted Ryan Gilligan’s cross in the ninth minute.

United equalised in the 36th minute with an Andy Robinson penalty, awarded after a foul in the box on Jonny Howson.

Late in the first half United went close to scoring a second, but Robinson’s shot struck the foot of a post, while Jonathan Douglas and Howson also threatened to break the deadlock.

In the second half, United used their one-man advantage to good effect, but Robert Snodgrass was denied by a post and then saw a free-kick saved by ’keeper Frank Fielding. Enoch Showunmi thought he had a good shout for a penalty turned down, and United were unable to force a winner.

The replay will be played at Sixfields Stadium on Tuesday, November 18, kick-off 7.45pm.

• United’s Fabian Delph missed out on the Coca-Cola League One player of the month award, which went to Bristol Rovers’ Rickie Lambert.
