GARRY Monk is looking to use Wednesday's penalty shootout victory over Fleetwood Town to kickstart his Leeds side's Championship campaign.
After Sunday's opening 3-0 defeat at QPR, Monk's men had to progress to the second round of the EFL Cup – where they will face Luton Town – the hard way after drawing 2-2 on the Fylde coast.
Attentions elsewhere are focused on off-the-pitch matters, with latest reports suggesting that Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani is in talks to buy a major stake in the Elland Road club.
Leeds have, however, secured the signing of 24-year-old Bristol City full back Luke Ayling on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Monk said: "I said after the QPR game that what I feared this team suffered from is a little bit of apprehension from playing, a little bit of belief in themselves to play.
"It's quite natural with young players at a very big club on a big stage for them, so early on in their careers, to consistently perform at a high level.
"So what we needed to do is add a little bit of experience in the squad, people that have been at that level or levels and have the experience of not having a fear of playing and putting their way of playing on to the pitch."
In regards to team selection, Pablo Hernandez came through the full 120 minutes without a problem at Fleetwood and is expected to have fully recovered for tomorrow's visit of Birmingham.
Liam Cooper is also fit to play, despite being substituted at half-time on Wednesday as he continues his comeback from a calf injury, but fellow defender Gaetano Berardi will almost certainly be ruled out as he awaits scans on a leg injury.
