LEEDS United will be hoping the lure of Wembley may distract tomorrow’s Elland Road visitors Blackburn Rovers.

The Lancashire side will arrive in Leeds only four days away from an FA Cup quarter-final replay at home to Liverpool against whom victory will send Rovers to Wembley for a semi-final against Premier League strugglers Aston Villa.

However, while the prospect of securing a place beneath the arch may prove beneficial, the more canny among the hosts also know that Rovers, who are led by Appleton Roebuck-born former Leeds man Matt Kilgallon, still harbour hopes of gate-crashing the Championship’s end of season play-off frenzy.

Leeds’ bid to derail that play-off push and also finally banish any remote fears of being dragged too close to the drop have been hampered by the international break.

Influential midfielder Lewis Cook is doubtful with a hamstring injury suffered when he played for England Under-19s in their 1-0 win over Azerbaijan last weekend.

Former Tadcaster School pupil Cook has been one of a clan of tyros currently leading United’s ascent clear of the relegation threat, so to lose him will be a setback for coach Neil Redfearn’s charges.
