Paul Hanagan, who has been announced as new retained jockey to Hamdan Al Maktoum, heads to Lingfield tomorrow in a bid to make a further impression for the Malton trainer who has supported him for 17 years.

Richard Fahey saddles Our Joe Mac, with Hanagan on board, in the featured bluesquare.com Winter Derby Trial and this talented gelding is capable enough to run a big race.

Although he lacks the all-weather expertise of his rivals, Our Joe Mac is a high-class handicapper on turf, as he proved last August when winning at York’s Ebor meeting.

He is an interesting runner from the Fahey stable, particularly with champion jockey Hanagan on board.

The nap vote is awarded to Palace Moon in the bluesquare.com Cleves Stakes over six furlongs.

The seven-year-old, trained by William Knight, has won both his races this season, on this course and at Wolverhampton, in fine style.

He looks ready for this step up to Listed class and with the in-form Joe Fanning on board, Palace Moon can complete a hat-trick.

Mark Johnston can provide Fanning with another winner, courtesy of Za’lan in the bluesq.com Maiden Stakes.

The son of Street Cry shaped well to finish second on his debut at Southwell earlier this month.

He is likely to have benefited from that experience and can go one better this time.

Little-known trainer Peter Crate has good prospects of a double with Picansort (2.15) and Taajub (5.05).

The latter won on this course recently and may be capable of defying a 5lb higher mark, while Picansort has twice suffered narrow defeats on this track on his last two outings. He is overdue a change of luck and is fancied to find opportunity knocking this time.

At Sandown today, Nicky Henderson can complete a double with Top Of The Range and Bellvano.

The latter won as he liked at Kelso last time out and is a talented performer, now the winner of two of his four starts this season. He can oblige again in the Kilbrittain Castle Novices’ Chase.

Top Of The Range runs in the Toro ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle, which will be his first outing for a couple of months.

Winner of his first two starts, one in a bumper and the other in a hurdle, Top Of The Range then contested a Grade 1 contest at Newbury, won by Fingal Bay and finished well adrift. He will find this drop in class much more to his liking.

John Ferguson can do little wrong this season and he can add to his tally of winners with Memorabilia (1.50), who can be forgiven his latest fourth-placed effort at Market Rasen and may be better judged on his previous win at Ludlow. He deserves another chance.

Norton trainer Brian Ellison has sent out winners on the last three days and he has prospects of extending the tally with Andreo Bambaleo (4.10), the mount of Kyle James, who has been doing well lately on the stable’s Dontpaytheferryman.
