It’s the Scottish Stewards’ Cup at Hamilton tomorrow evening, and with £33,000 in prize money up for grabs, it’s no surprise that a maximum field of 16 runners – ten of which are trained in North Yorkshire – are set to face the starter.

It’s no surprise either that Richard Fahey has three runners in the showpiece event, which he has won in the past with dual-winner Knot In Wood and also Quest For Success, who takes his chance tomorrow with Paul Hanagan in the saddle.

A winner at Ayr last time out, the gelding is well drawn here in his bid to double up in what looks a very competitive race.

His stablemates Brave Prospector, a new recruit to the Fahey stable and a classy horse, and Irish Heartbeat, are both very useful, as are Tim Easterby’s Mister Hughie, a good sixth at York last Saturday, and Colonel Mak, from the David Barron stable and a horse who won last season’s Ayr Silver Cup.

The North Yorkshire raiding party looks in good shape for this crackerjack of a sprint.

The nap vote is awarded to Glenluji in the opening Anya’s Papa Joe’s 50th Birthday Apprentice Handicap.

Jim Goldie’s gelding finished third at Chester last Friday night in a ladies’ race and looked a little unlucky, in that he failed to get a clear run until it was too late. Compensation awaits him here.

Half A Billion promises to be hard to beat in the John Smith’s Extra Smooth Maiden Auction Stakes.

The Michael Dods-trained juvenile ran a race full of promise on his debut to run the more experienced Pen Bal Crag to half a length. He should be wiser this time and can be another winner for the in-form Freddie Tylicki.

In the John Smith’s Stayers Handicap, French Hollow bids to complete a quick double for Norton trainer Tim FitzGerald after notching a shock 66-1 success at York last Friday.

Such generous odds will not be available this time and the style of French Hollow’s Knavesmire victory entitles him to plenty of respect, especially with Paul Hanagan booked for the mount.

At Pontefract’s evening fixture, the Betfred Handicap takes pride of place, and Magical Macey, trained near Thirsk by David Barron, catches the eye.

The four-year-old took a step forward at York on her latest outing when finishing a length second to Medici Time, who has since won again at Newmarket.

Jamie Spencer looks a significant jockey booking by Barron, who rarely engages the former champion unless he feels he can put him on a horse with a winning chance. Magical Macey looks to have just that.

Westow trainer Paul Midgley is enjoying a splendid summer and he can add to his growing tally of winners, courtesy of Wiseman’s Diamond in the Colstrope Cup Handicap.

The six-year-old returned to winning form at Ripon last week and a 6lb penalty may not be enough to halt her in her double bid over a course and distance where she has won in the past.

William Haggas, who won last Saturday’s John Smith’s Cup with Green Destiny, has good prospects of completing a Pontefract double, with Silvestre de Sousa doing the steering.

Haggas saddles Vital Gold in the opening Countryside Freight Maiden Auction Stakes and if this two-year-old colt has learned from his debut outing at Yarmouth, where he looked very green before finishing third to Apostle, he should go well.

Likewise Parvana in the totepool Fillies’ Handicap. Fourth at Ascot on her reappearance, she has since finished second at Bath. She looks capable of winning a race or two this season and opportunity could come knocking for the Haggas raider here.
