Gabrial, who created such a good impression when making a winning debut at Chester earlier this month, can fulfil that promise by bagging the feature race at Beverley tomorrow.

On a day when northern race-goers also have the choice of a corresponding afternoon meeting at Catterick, the £15,000 Brian Yeardley Continental Two Year Old Trophy takes pride of place on the Westwood, and Gabrial promises to make a bold bid.

Despite still looking green and raw at Chester, the two-year-old swept past his maiden race rivals to win in convincing style and leave the striking impression that plenty of further improvement would be forthcoming.

The Richard Fahey-trained juvenile obviously faces a much stiffer task tomorrow against four other previous winners, including the Kevin Ryan-trained Hamsa, successful at Musselburgh on his debut and a good second at York since. But Gabrial, in the hands of Paul Hanagan, should have the edge and is awarded the nap vote.

The £13,000 Brantingham Conditions Stakes is the main supporting race on the Beverley card and Wetherby trainer Robin Bastiman has good prospects of collecting with Singeur, the mount of Lee Newman.

A useful horse on his day, but one who has been troubled by foot problems, Singeur gave a reminder of his sprinting prowess when winning under Newman at Thirsk on his latest outing a couple of weeks ago. He is fancied to follow up.

Zaplamation, runner-up here to Danderek, and to Rosbay at Newcastle last time, can make it third time lucky (2.45) and trigger a Beverley double for Norton trainer John Quinn, who also has good prospects with Violent Velocity (4.55), who has been running well lately and who will have the added advantage of Paul Hanagan in the saddle.

Quinn can also make his presence felt at Catterick with Madamlily, who is fancied to land the Bet On The Big Match At totesport.com Handicap.

The Highfield mare finished unplaced on her latest outing at Thirsk, but she had previously won in decisive fashion on this course and is worthy of respect now paying another visit. Freddie Tylicki has the mount.

While Folk Tune (1.55) also boasts a fighting chance for Quinn, Tim Easterby likewise has double prospects at the North Yorkshire course with Lost In Paris (4.40), who gave notice of returning to form when a close third to Le Toreador at Thirsk last time out, and the speedy Tilliemint (5.15), who has been unlucky not to have won a race before now.

Watch out, too, for Ginger Grey (3.00), trained by the in-form David O’Meara, who won at Doncaster last autumn, and who looks the type to pay his way in northern handicap company this term.
