LADY riders take centre stage at Wetherby Racecourse’s family day on Sunday.

They open the seven-race card, which begins at 2.25pm, with a handicap hurdle. The feature handicap chase – the Ladies Day 19th May Chase – is staged over three miles and one furlong.

There is plenty of action on and off the track, including a host of family attractions and the sixth running of the Mascot Gold Cup.

There will be a parade of the mascots in the parade ring prior to racing and they will race over the final furlong of the track, overcoming six obstacles, in front of the grandstands after the opening race.

The National Festival Circus has three 45-minute performances free of charge during the afternoon, while other attractions for youngsters include inflatable fun fair rides, slides, bouncy castles, face-painting, fairground rides and wall-climbing.

Gates open at 11.45am and accompanied children under 16 will be admitted free into all the enclosure. Cars can be taken into the Course Enclosure for £17, which includes up to a maximum of four adults.
