Record Breaker, fit from the all-weather, can come out on top in the most valuable race at Doncaster tomorrow.

The Mark Johnston-trained six-year-old runs in the £20,000 William Hill-sponsored Doncaster Shield and is fancied to have the edge over another North Yorkshire runner, the Richard Fahey-trained Furmigadelaguista.

Record Breaker scored twice last season, the historic Lanark Silver Bell at Hamilton and a valuable handicap at Ascot in the autumn.

Runner-up at Kempton 11 days ago, Record Breaker is narrowly preferred to Furmigadelaguista, a useful performer last season for Karl Burke, who is having his first run for Fahey.

Johnston also has good prospects with Green Lightning in the robinhoodairport.com Handicap.

Three outings last season resulted in a win on the last of them for Green Lightning. That success came at Nottingham in the autumn when he won in decisive fashion, despite showing a tendency to carry his head very high.

A son of Montjeu, Green Lightning may have a little quirk or two, but he clearly has ability and is not one to dismiss in this ten-furlong event.

Mick Easterby’s popular old-timer Blue Spinnaker should not be overlooked in the opening AJA Gentleman Amateur Riders’ Handicap, given that he has now dropped to a very attractive rating, while Regeneration, the mount of Jamie Spencer, looks to have good each-way prospects in the williamhill.com Handicap.

Spencer, the former champion jockey, has also been booked by Norton trainer John Quinn to ride Fantasy Explorer in the williamhill.com Handicap over six furlongs. It could prove a significant engagement.

Fantasy Explorer is a decent horse on his day, as he proved when winning at Newmarket last September.

He continued to run well on the all-weather until the middle of November and, if Quinn has him revved for his seasonal comeback, he should run a good race.

The nap vote is awarded to Paquerettza in the Society Lifestyle & Leisure Magazine Fillies’ Handicap.

Trained by David Brown, the four-year-old won at Newmarket last April and wound up the campaign with a good second to Starla Dancer at York. She should go well if Brown has her fit for her comeback.
