Skylla, caught out by the step up to six furlongs at Ripon last time out, can show her rivals the way home in the feature race at Ayr tomorrow.

Trained in the Midlands by John Holt, who has only a tiny string of horses, Skylla is far and away the best of them, as she’s shown this season with two wins and two second places from her four starts.

On her latest outing in the Ripon Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy, Skylla found herself outstayed by Hold Your Colour in the closing stages.

Her previous three runs, and two wins, had come over the minimum distance, which she faces once more in the £35,000 Mac Asphalt Harry Rosebery Stakes. She is napped to come out on top in the hands of regular rider, Jerry O’Dwyer.

Tim Easterby has found a useful opportunity for The Nifty Fox to shine in the BAM Properties Handicap.

The five-year-old has been in cracking form lately, and his most recent narrow defeat at Catterick could be largely put down to the step up to six furlongs. Much like Skylla, he will relish returning to five furlongs tomorrow.

Richard Fahey has sent a huge team of horses to Scotland, and the Malton trainer has bright prospects with Gritstone (1.50), a good second on his debut at Beverley, and Eight Hours (2.55), winner of two races last season, including at Ripon on his latest start.

The William Hill (Ayr) Bronze Cup is designed to accomodate 27 sprinters which fail to make it into the Gold and Silver Cups which will be run on Saturday.

Declarations for this race will take place today – when the Gold and Silver fields will also be finalised – so it’s pure pot luck at the moment, knowing what runs and where they might be drawn. If Hotham makes it into tomorrrow’s fieid, Noel Wilson’s recent winner should go well, as he’s a previous winner on this card.

At Newbury’s high-class card, Doctor Fremantle is selected to get the better of Campanologist and Look Here in a very smart renewal of the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial.

Sir Michael Stoute’s colt has had a break since landing the Princess of Wales’s Stakes at Newmarket ten weeks ago, but he is unlikely to fail on the score of fitness as he returns to action under Ryan Moore.

The highly-regarded Ameer (3.20), trained by the all-conquering Godolphin team, and the mount of Frankie Dettori, is worthy of serious attention, as is useful course winner Huntdown (3.55), another Dettori-Godolphin hope, who has a Listed race target.
