FURMIGADELAGIUSTA could go for Listed honours at York Racecourse this weekend.

Karl Burke’s Leyburn-trained five-year-old has the chance to go for a Knavesmire double in the Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup on Saturday – but may face a tough field.

Furmigadelaguista romped to victory at York in the sportingbet.com Jorvik Stakes at the May Festival, leaving the rest of the field trailing in his wake in the staying contest.

That led Burke’s wife Elaine to say the Ebor Handicap could be the long-term target in August but the Spigot Lodge handler has identified the possibility of Black Type in the £40,000 contest.

Chief among his opposers at the early declaration stage looks to be Barry Hills’ Daraahem, who squeezed past Ajaan and Halla San to win the Chester Cup earlier in the month.

Both those horses are also entered at York and Mark Johnston’s consistent Drill Sergeant could also be in the mix.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Hutton handler Tim Walford aims to break his Knavesmire duck with Timocracy in the Bollinger Champagne Challenge Series for Gentleman Amateur Riders Handicap.

Walford, who has already notched six winners from just 32 runners so far this Flat season, has identified a York victory as one of his top priorities for the season.

And in Timocracy, who won at Pontefract last time out, they think they have a contender. Assistant trainer Mark Walford, who will likely take the ride if the four-year-old runs, is hopeful.

“He will run if the ground is right,” he said.

“He has to have a good chance. We were delighted with him first time out and he did it very easily then.

“It wasn’t the strongest of races there and there are a couple of contenders at York but he is doing well and we would expect him to run very close.

“I would be disappointed if we couldn’t get in the first three as he will improve from that last run.”

Aside from the Stowe Family Law Cup, the day’s other highlight is the Class 2 Knavesmire Sprint Cup with York winner Internationaldebut, Richard Fahey’s Kaldoun Kingdom and Tim Easterby’s Hamish McGonagall.
