Mick Easterby, having successfully produced Provost to justify favouritism at Southwell last week, sends the five-year-old back to the same course tomorrow with excellent prospects of supplementing that victory.

The Sheriff Hutton trainer saddles nap selection Provost in the Book Tickets On Line At southwell-racecourse.co.uk Apprentice Handicap and has snapped up the services of Frederik Tylicki.

Attached to Richard Fahey’s Malton yard, Tylicki came strongly to the fore last season, when he won the richly-endowed John Smith’s Cup at York for his boss on Flying Clarets.

Last week, on his first ride for Easterby, he steered well-supported favourite Elliwan to an easy win and he has every chance of making it two from two for the trainer on Provost.

Owned by York businessman Alan Black, a long-time patron of the Easterby yard, Provost started a well-backed 13-8 favourite last week and duly scored in comfortable style.

He has an extra three furlongs to travel tomorrow, which is a slight worry, but if he proves he possesses the neccessary stamina, he should be hard to beat.

Gracie’s Gift is another horse returning to Southwell looking for more of the same after a recent course win.

Trained by Richard Guest, the seven-year-old returned from a lay off of more than four months to score here last week in gutsy style after attracting good support in the market. A 6lb penalty may not be enough to halt her tomorrow.

Fahey’s Strathmore (2.40), narrowly beaten on his latest start at Wolverhampton, and Guto (3.45), a creditable runner-up to stable-mate Colorus on this course last week, are two others worthy of attention on the six-race card.

At Kempton’s evening meeting, Shanafarahan is an interesting runner in the Mix Business With Pleasure Handicap.

Having been sold cheaply out of Thomas Tate’s North Yorkshire yard last autumn, the four-year-old, now trained by Kevin Morgan, came good at Lingfield on his latest start.

Now he has finally got his head in front, there may be more to come from him and he promises to offer solid each-way value in a tougher contest, headed by the unbeaten Prince Charlemagne.

Titan Triumph should make a bold bid to defy top weight in the Kempton For Outdoor Events Handicap.

The five-year-old produced a fine display to beat Majuro on his latest outing over this course and distance and, seemingly still on the upgrade, he makes plenty of appeal in the hands of Jim Crowley.

The promising Coming Back (7.20), who shaped really well on her one and only start as a juvenile, at Newmarket last November, and the in-form Perlachy (9.20) are two others to note.
