All signs point to Knavesmire tomorrow for the Press Family Raceday, which features a whole host of entertainment, plus the usual array of high-class racing for which York is famed.

The normal late-summer Sunday slot for our annual event has this year been changed because of track works, which are set to start on Knavesmire in the autumn.

Richard Fahey, who has saddled no fewer than six winners at our previous nine Press Racedays, has strong claims with Viva Ronaldo in the EBF Yorkshire Regiment Maiden Stakes.

The two-year-old son of Xaar shaped with eye-catching promise on his debut at Chester earlier this month when finishing second to Rebecca de Winter. That race has worked out well with two subsequent winners finishing behind him.

Sure to have derived plenty of experience from that outing, Viva Ronaldo can go one better tomorrow.

Fahey also has good prospects with Whatyouwoodwishfor in the other juvenile race, the Garbutt & Elliott Maiden Stakes.

A creditable fifth on his debut on this course earlier in the month, there is plenty of improvement to come from this colt by Forestry.

Fahey has other good chances, not least with Benandonner, narrowly beaten on the course a couple of weeks ago, in the opening PD Ports Stakes. But the gelding may have to settle for a supporting role in this tough event, in which Fateh Field is fancied to come out on top.

A classy filly, and lightly-raced, Fateh Field finished a close-up second at Newmarket on her reappearance and looks capable of winning at this level.

Tim Easterby can land the SKF Handicap with Rosbay, the mount of David Allan. A slender defeat by Snowed Under at Beverley recently confirmed Rosbay to be in fine form. The four-year-old is expected to go well over this extended ten furlongs.

Speed will be the key to the GWP Architects Handicap over York's flying five furlongs and Crimson Fern makes plenty of appeal. Malcolm Saunders' filly bolted by three-and-a-half lengths on her latest outing at Goodwood last week. That victory was achieved in an apprentices' race which means that Crimson Fern goes unpenalised here. She is upped in class, but should run a big race.

Tomorrow's nap selection is awarded to Harry The Hawk in the Bollinger Champagne Series Amateur Riders' Handicap.

Trained at Sheriff Hutton by Tim Walford, Harry The Hawk scored at Beverley two starts ago before finishing a creditable third at Leciester last time.

Both those outings were over ten furlongs and there is every chance he can show further improvement over tomorrow's step up to a mile and a half. The experienced Simon Walker takes the mount on Harry The Hawk, who is marginally preferred to Mick Easterby's course specialist Sporting Gesture and the Fahey-trained Collette's Choice, the mount of Ben Hamilton, younger bother of Flat jockey, Tony.
