TWO-time Group One winner Quiet Reflection has been named flat racing's sprinter of the year.

Owned by the Malton-based Ontoawinner syndicate and trained at Leyburn by Karl Burke, the three-year-old won both the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and the 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock Park this season.

She beat off competition from Mecca's Angel, Limato, and the Tin Man to win the prestigious prize at the annual Cartier Racing Awards held at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

Burke said he was 'delighted' and 'extremely proud' of Quiet Reflection's achievements.

The horse is staying in training next season and Burke has revealed that she could make her next appearance in the Duke of York Stakes at York in May.

Aiden O'Brien's star filly Minding was crowned both Cartier Horse of the Year and Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly following a remarkable season that saw her triumph five times in Group One races including the 1000 Guineas, Epsom Oaks and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

It was a night to remember for the Coolmore team as O'Brien and jockey Ryan Moore scooped an unprecedented five of the eight awards.

O'Brien was also announced as the recipient of the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit for 2016.

Churchill took the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt Award following a superb campaign that culminated with Group One victories in the Goffs Vincent O'Brien National Stakes and the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes.

The fifth award for the Coolmore/O'Brien team was that for Cartier Stayer which went to Order Of St George. The four-year-old landed the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and was also a fine third to stable companion Found when dropped in trip for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

There was success for France with Almanzor taking the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt Award following a tremendous season that saw him win both the QIPCO Champion Stakes and QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes as well as the French Classic, the Prix du Jockey Club.

Lady Aurelia created history by becoming the first US-trained horse to win a Cartier Racing Award as she took the honours in the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly division.
