DUTCH CONNECTION can reverse recent form with Toormore and mark himself as an older horse on the up by winning the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury today.

The four-year-old has been thereabouts at Group One level since his juvenile days, chasing home Gleneagles in the National Stakes on his final start of 2014.

He fell short in Classic company last term when only seventh in the Guineas but his subsequent Jersey Stakes triumph over seven furlongs showed that he remained an animal of real potential.

His second to Territories in the Jean Prat admirably demonstrated that he is not just a seven-furlong specialist and his second in the Lennox at Goodwood suggested that perhaps that trip was becoming a bit too sharp as he got a little older.

Charlie Hills made the bold decision to send Dutch Connection to Keeneland for the Shadwell Turf Mile but he never looked comfortable there and it is best to draw a line under that run.

Returned to action at Sandown last month, Toormore proved a neck too good, despite conceding 3lb, but he had certainly seen action much more recently than Dutch Connection and on slightly testing ground, Hills' runner was likely outstayed.

He can be expected to make plenty of progress for that outing and while the Newbury ground might not be ideal, Dutch Connection has shown he can handle a bit of ease.

The fact that Godolphin felt compelled to buy him earlier this week suggests plenty more is expected in the future. William Buick rides today's nap selection.

PRINCE OF ARRAN, ridden by Tom Queally, can bring up his hat-trick in the Al Zubarah London Gold Cup.

He did not always look straight forward last year but the application of a visor at Kempton in November appeared to work the oracle with the son of Shirocco as he opened his account in style.

Sent back to Kempton for his reappearance last month, Prince Of Arran once again shone, showing the ability to quicken off a muddling gallop and win by just over a length.

A three-furlong hike in trip proved little barrier to success and victory here could be just a stepping stone to better things.

STAR STORM, also with Queally on board, should feel the benefit of a prep run in the Al Rayyan Stakes.

He was well beaten at Newmarket on his reappearance two weeks ago but he looked to be a horse that would improve with every outing, as he did last year.

Progressing from an opening mark of 86 last July to a Group Three winner at Ascot in October, Star Storm has shot up 21lb in the official ratings.

While Exosphere proved too good at Headquarters, this Group Three heat does not look as tough a test.

TANEEN can put himself in the Commonwealth Cup reckoning by landing the Toronado Carnarvon Stakes.

He got off the mark at the second time of asking last year and it is interesting to see Roger Varian set him such a stiff task on his return.

RACE DAY can get back on the winning track in the Betfair Cash Out King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket.

He rounded off last term with three successive all-weather wins before failing to sparkle on two outings so far in 2016. He will be having his first turf outing since last July and merits a second glance.

FAST TRACK is the pick in the Constant Security Services Handicap at Thirsk, while John Gosden's SYMBOLIC should be on the mark in Doncaster's Portland of Bawtry Used Cars Handicap following his recent wide-margin Chelmsford victory.

HINDON ROAD is taken to strike in the Bet With CorbettSports Handicap Chase at Bangor, while CASTLETOWN is the one to be in the Enjoy A Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter.
