OLYMPIC cycling star Victoria Pendleton pays her first visit to Beverley this afternoon as she seeks her first win as an amateur jockey.

Pendleton has swapped two wheels for four legs after switching to horsepower in her quest to make a name for herself in her new discipline, the aim of which is for her to ride in the Cheltenham Foxhunters' Chase in March.

Pendleton has no steeplechase fences in her way this afternoon but she does have one obstacle to overcome. Her mount in the Betfair Supports Amateur Riders' Handicap, ROYAL ETIQUETTE – on whom she came nail-bitingly close to winning at Ripon three weeks ago – has a wide draw to overcome in the mile-and-a-quarter race.

It was only by inches that Royal Etiquette failed to oblige for Pendleton at Ripon in a similar contest. The Lawney Hill-trained gelding has a fighting chance of going one better this afternoon to provide his celebrity rider with a famous triumph – away from the Velodrome.

The British Stallion Studs Eddie And Violet Smith Conditions Stakes over five furlongs takes pride of place on the Beverley card.

Paul Midgley has good prospects of landing this £14,000 prize as he saddles two of the seven runners, Line Of Reason and Silvanus.

Both horses have enjoyed good seasons and the edge goes to LINE OF REASON, who has slightly stronger credentials than his stablemate.

Pipers Note and Duke Of Firenze are also in the line-up – with the latter representing Robert Cowell, who won this race last year with Kingsgate Native.

Richard Fahey can continue his excellent season by landing a double in the first maiden races with Jordan Sport and Bahamian Bird.

JORDAN SPORT shaped well on his debut on this course before blotting his copybook at Sandown by pulling too hard, while BAHAMIAN BIRD finished a good second on her debut at Redcar and is entitled to come on for that experience.

DUAL MAC is napped to defy top weight in the Patrick And Patricia Maske Memorial Handicap.

Few would begrudge Neville Bycroft's eight-year-old a winning turn, given that he has finished runner-up in his last three starts. He is well drawn here in stall one and jockey Dale Swift knows him well.

ON A PAR has proved frustrating to follow this summer but Tim Easterby's three-year-old is worth another chance in the Harrowell Solicitors Handicap (division one).

David Allan's mount finished fourth at Carlisle last time out, beaten only a couple of lengths, and is entitled to be on the premises in this race over an extended mile.

At Lingfield, Paul Hanagan can get punters off to a good mark on ALTARSHEED in the British Stallion Studs Maiden Stakes.

The Richard Hannon-trained juvenile has shaped well on his two runs on turf. There is no reason why he can't transfer that promise to Polytrack this afternoon as he aims to make it third time lucky.

Sir Mark Prescott has double prospects with NIGHT GENERATION (3.20), who returns from a 99-day break, and LEGAL SHARK (3.50), who has course-winning form to his credit.
