TONY McCoy rides again at Doncaster today.

The legendary jump jockey, who retired from the saddle in May, is returning for one ride and one ride only at the request of Jack Berry to take part in the Clipper Logistics Leger Legends, a charity event, which forms the highlight of the opening day of the St Leger Festival.

McCoy will team-up with GANNICUS, trained by Brendan Powell. The gelding was a winner at Brighton last time out and has solid claims in a wide-open race over the straight mile.

The line-up of retired jockeys is an impressive one, with Johnny Murtagh – the former Derby-winning rider – partnering Commissar and former champion jockey Kevin Darley joining forces with Fidelma Moon.

Add to the list names like Classic-winning rider Michael Hills, Jim Culloty, who won three Cheltenham Gold Cups on Best Mate, as well as North Yorkshire's Dale Gibson, rider of last year's winner, Kim Tinkler, Ollie Pears and Rodney Lappin.

But all eyes will be on McCoy and the cheer he will get should Gannicus prevail will probably rival any he received throughout his career.

Westow trainer Paul Midgley has good prospects of winning the £40,000 J20 Spritz Stakes with MONSIEUR JOE, the mount of Graham Lee.

Midgley, who had a winner at Redcar yesterday, placed Monsieur Joe to win a Listed race at Tipperary on his latest start.

The eight-year-old has a penalty to carry this afternoon but is entitled to run a big race in a five-furlong dash that will be completed in under a minute.

FIREDANSER can win the opening Owlerton Greyhound Stadium Nursery Handicap, with Paul Hanagan having the mount.

Richard Fahey's juvenile got off the mark at Haydock last time with a gritty effort over six furlongs. He steps up to seven furlongs here on his handicap debut. There is probably more to come from him.

AKEED CHAMPION, the ride of Jamie Spencer, has every chance of providing Fahey with an opening-day double in the Frank Whittle Partnership Handicap.

The three-year-old has won his last two races at Redcar at Newmarket. Up another 4lb but able to run off bottom weight in this better-class race, Akeed Champion has decent claims.

Also worth noting on Town Moor are the useful ELRONAQ (2.30), who takes a drop in class, and FREDRICKA (4.45), who was narrowly denied on her latest start and deserves to go one better. Silvestre de Sousa has the mount.

At Carlisle, Tim Easterby saddles SILVERY MOON in the featured Andersons (Denton Holme) Sawmills Carlisle Handicap.

Paul Mulrennan's mount trotted up over this course and distance three weeks ago. He has since had his rating revised but if he's in the same form, he should take plenty of beating.

Fahey has a host of good chances on the Cumbrian course.

The Malton trainer can score with HYLAND HEATHER (2.20), who is making her handicap debut, JESSIE B GOODE (2.50), who has won her last races in selling company, and nap selection INVERMERE (3.25), whose two efforts to date – at Wetherby and Chester – suggest she can win in maiden company.
