CO KILDARE trainer Ken Condon, who has never previously had a runner at York, can make his first experience of Knavesmire a winning one by capturing this afternoon's feature contest.

The 888Sport Summer Stakes is the target for Condon's smart filly NEWSLETTER, who will be paired up with Malton jockey Tony Hamilton as she bids to claim this £60,000 Group 3 prize.

A winner in Listed company at Nottingham in May, Newsletter has since been beaten only half a length by Ainippe in a Group 3 race at the Curragh, where she came from off the pace and only just failed to get up.

The step up to six furlongs seems to have suited Newsletter, who faces a useful field of fillies here, with Interception – winner of the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot last month – spearheading the opposition.

David Lanigan's charge, who is nothing if not talented and consistent, will be hard to beat, but the two-year younger Newsletter receives a handy 6lb and she is fancied to come out on top for Hamilton and Condon.

Hamilton also has good prospects in the opening Cakemark EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes aboard CELEBRATION.

Richard Fahey's youngster shaped with promise on his debut at Newcastle last month to finish third and is open to further improvement.

Celebration faces stiff opposition – especially from Ajaya, the likely hot favourite, who finished second at Nottingham on his debut and underlined his prowess when a close-up seventh in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot last time.

GEORGE BOWEN should also have a good chance for Fahey in the Coopers Marquees Apprentice Handicap.

Jack Garritty takes the mount on the three-year-old, who has filled the frame at Sandown and Epsom on his last two starts. This nearer-to-home target may not be quite so demanding.

Emerahldz should go well for Fahey in the Groceryaid Chairman's Charity Cup Handicap after her win at Thirsk last month, but preference is MIGHTY YAR, beaten by half-a-length in this race last year and teed-up for another try by a creditable third-placed effort on his reappearance at Newmarket a fortnight ago.

The Acturis Handicap looks a wide-open affair over six furlongs. A blanket finish looks on the cards.

Paul Midgley won the race last year with Line Of Reason and the North Yorkshire trainer has good prospects again with SILVANUS.

The old-timer has been in the form of his life this season, winning at Chester in the spring, and is likely to be well suited by this return to handicap company after respectable efforts in hot conditions events at Beverley and Hamilton on his last two starts.

Also worth noting on Knavesmire are Mark Johnston's FASHIONABLE SPIRIT (2.20) and Simon Crisford's MUSTADAAM (4.35), who makes appeal on his belated seasonal debut and on his first outing since switching stables.

The second day of Newmarket's July Festival is highlighted by the £200,000 Qipco Falmouth Stakes, in which David O'Meara will be strongly represented by AMAZING MARIA.

The Sir Robert Ogden-owned four-year-old was an impressive winner of the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot, showing a fine turn of foot to put the race beyond doubt.

She fully deserves this step up to Group 1 company and it would be no surprise to see her prevail. Among the main dangers are Ireland's Lucida and Avenir Certain from France.

The nap vote is awarded to EASTON ANGEL in the £80,000 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes.

Winner of two of her three starts, Michael Dods' juvenile star found only US raider Acapulco too strong in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

She now steps up to six furlongs, which should be well within her compass. Paul Mulrennan continues his association with the northern raider.

Also worthy of attention at HQ are GRANDAD'S WORLD (3.45), a good second to Twilight Son at York last month, and the progressive SPIRITING (5.30).
