IT’S not too often that North Yorkshire trainers head to Sandown with a host of chances of getting on the scoresheet, but this afternoon promises to be the exception to the rule.

John Quinn, Brian Ellison and Tim and Mick Easterby all boast winning prospects at the Esher course where Noel Fehily seems to be the go-to jockey for the visitors.

Quinn has secured Fehily’s services for Chieftain’s Choice in the featured William Hill Imperial Cup Handicap Hurdle, while Mick Easterby has also booked the jockey, who rides next week’s Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite Silviniaco Conti, to team up with Saints And Sinners in the William Hill Handicap Chase.

Chieftain’s Choice took an early fall in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on his latest start, which was unfortunate as that race was his target after wins at Hexham and Catterick.

He is worth another chance in this wide-open race as a horse we probably haven’t seen the best of yet by a long chalk.

Saints And Sinners has been on something of a roll. The Sheriff Hutton gelding has won his last two races, one at Doncaster and the other two at Wetherby.

He will do well to complete a four-timer in the concluding contest on the Sandown card, but it would take a brave man to say that he has come to the end of his winning sequence yet.

Yorkist, who runs in the William Hill Daily Cheltenham Specials Novices’ Handicap Chase, has taken well to fences.

Ellison’s Norton raider has won two of his five starts in chases and was far from disgraced at Musselburgh last time out. Ellison has booked Tony McCoy to ride him this afternoon.

Tim Easterby has his string in excellent heart and his Colour Of The Wind is not to be overlooked in the EBF Stalllions/ TBA Mares’ National Hunt Flat Race.

A winner first time out at Worcester, she may have been sent for home too soon when beaten into second place at Wetherby on her only subsequent outing.

In a wide-open contest, she looks to have at least as good a chance as many in the field.

In the EBF William Hill Novices’ Handicap Hurdle Final, many punters will be keen on the chances of the Paul Nicholls-trained As de Mee, winner of two of his last three starts at Leicester and on this course.

He clearly has a good chance, but the value bet may well be Great Try, who is napped to come good in this valuable con - test after a fluent win at Bangor last time out.

On the Flat at Wolverhampton, a richly-endowed meeting is highlighted by two Channel 4 races, both worth £50,000.

In the Ladbrokes Wilfruna Stakes, a Listed sprint which opens the programme, Frankie Dettori has an excellent chance aboard the classy Al Thakhira.

A Group 2 winner as a juvenile and a proven Pattern-race performer, the Marco Botti-trained four-year-old is entitled to make a bold bid provided she copes with this switch to an artificial surface.

The Ladbrokes Lincoln Trial, the other showpiece event, is a closely-knit affair, but Mindurownbusiness makes appeal in the hands of Graham Lee.

Trained by Roger Varian, the four-year-old was a decisive winner at Lingfield last time and is fancied to cope with a 7lb hike in the weights.

Also worth noting at Dunstall Park are the lightly-raced Wakea (4.35) and Forest Maiden (5.10), winner of her only start last season, both of whom will be ridden by Ryan Moore.
