Jockey Tony McCoy takes Flight at Musselburgh
Peerless multi-champion Tony McCoy, the most successful jump jockey in history, looks a significant booking for North Yorkshire raider Roman Flight at Musselburgh today.
Previously trained in Ireland by Charlie Swan and now with David O’Meara at Nawton, near Helmsley, Roman Flight, a dual-winner, finished a good second to God’s Own at Doncaster last month.
He is fancied to step up on that performance in the CMYK Digital Solutions Handicap Hurdle under McCoy, who yesterday at Ayr scored on another North Yorkshire horse, the Tim Easterby-trained Deepsand.
Supporters of Roman Flight could get a confidence booster earlier in the afternoon as God’s Own runs in the County Refreshments Novices’ Hurdle.
Since then, God’s Own has finished a perfectly creditable third at Huntingdon in a race won by My Tent Or Yours, whose success in last Saturday’s Betfair Hurdle at Newbury confirmed him to be a top-notch performer in the making.
God’s Own faces a stern test against last month’s course winner Cayman Islands, but he is fancied to have the edge over John Ferguson’s runner.
Peddlers Cross is the star attraction at Musselburgh.
The Grade 1-winning hurdler, trained by Donald McCain, who placed him to finish second in the Champion Hurdle two years ago, is on the comeback trail.
The eight-year-old should appreciate the step up to two miles and six furlongs in the Howies Restaurants Edinburgh Hurdle.
Graham Lee can make a successful journey to Kempton tomorrow evening.
Lee teams up with nap selection Rysbrack in the BetVictor Exclusive Non Runner Free Bet Handicap over two miles.
1.10 Blazing Bull, 1.40 Peddlers Cross, 2.10 God’s Own, 2.40 Local Present, 3.10 Goldtrek, 3.40 Roman Flight, 4.10 Buckstruther, 4.40 Spitz.
Today’s other meetings: Kempton, Lingfield and Southwell.
