Serena Brotherton, a lady for all seasons, makes the journey from her North Yorkshire home to Wolverhampton this afternoon with good prospects of adding to her winning tally.

Brotherton, a solictor by profession, won this year’s lady amateur riders’ championship – not for the first time – and remains a driving force in the amateur sphere.

This afternoon, she teams up with the Brian Baugh-trained Daring Damsel in the second leg of the totepool Amateur Riders’ Handicap and looks to have good prospects of taking the honours.

The three-year-old failed by only a short head to beat Spartan Spirit at Kempton last time out, after attempting to make all the running and rallying gamely when headed.

It is likely that Brotherton will attempt similar front-running tactics today and Daring Damsel has every chance of providing her with a winning ride.

The nap vote is awarded to Solace in the totepool Maiden Stakes.

Trained by John Gosden, whose horses are in excellent form, the juvenile has shown definite signs of ability on her two starts on turf. Her fitness has to be taken on trust after three months off, but this is a race which will not take much winning and Solace is fancied to make it third time lucky under Robert Havlin.

The currently sidelined Southwell, because of flood damage, is something of a nuisance to La Estrella, who is a prolific winner at the Nottinghamshire course. Instead, Newmarket trainer Don Cantillon sends his popular veteran to Wolverhampton for the Hotel & Conferencing At Wolverhampton Selling Stakes.

He looks different class to his rivals and he is a former course winner, so he promises to take plenty of beating under Adam Kirby.

Also worth noting are Bix (4.25) and the promising Light Shine (4.55), trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam and the mount of Jamie Spencer.

At Lingfield tomorrow, South Yorkshire trainer Gary Moss bids to gain a second course success within a fortnight with Lucky Mark in the Book Tickets Online@lingfieldpark.co.uk Handicap.

The mount of Jimmy Quinn, Lucky Mark showed his appreciation for stepping up to seven furlongs last time out when beating Hoover by a length. There may be more to come from him and a follow up may be on the cards.

Fairyinthewind would hardly be winning out of turn if she finally collects in the At The Races On Facebook Fillies’ Handicap.

Paul d’Arcy’s three-year-old has finished runner-up on her last three starts and has never been denied by more than half a length. She deserves to get her head in front this time. Seb Sanders has the mount.

Bull Bay was a winner on his latest start a fortnight ago at Kempton and he has good prospects of adding to his tally in the first division of the Follow Us On Twitter@LingfieldPark Handicap.

Ian Burns takes the mount on the gelding and his 7lb claim will come in handy as nap selection Bull Bay bids to follow up out of maiden company.

Also worth considering are recent winner Roy’s Legacy (1.50) and the consistent Fortrose Academy (3.20).
