SEETHING manager Paul Marshall panned Tadcaster Albion’s 4-1 home defeat to Northern Counties East League premier division leaders Bridlington Town as “garbage”.

Marshall was so dismayed at his strikers’ inability to trouble the visiting defence at Ings Lane that he threw on substitute goalkeeper Scott Pallister in an attacking role.

Pallister scored his side’s only goal on 75 minutes, but they were already trailing to two Craig Hogg goals and a Christopher Jenkins strike.

Former Pickering Town player Billy Logan added a fourth with six minutes remaining.

Marshall said: “It was an awful game, garbage. Bridlington were shocking and we were worse.

“If we had played anything like – even 70 per cent – we would have won the game easily. It was like a training game, it was embarrassing.”

He added: “I told our strikers at half-time that if they couldn’t score against that back four there is something wrong.

“I put Scott on up front as a sub and he scored. I was chuffed to bits for him.”

Albion’s attacking options were limited by 16-goal top-scorer Carl Stewart’s move to Pickering on the eve of the match.

Former Dringhouses frontman Stewart celebrated his Pikes debut with two goals in a 3-1 win at Long Eaton United.

Stewart made an instant impression with goals on 58 minutes and 67 minutes, while Russell Parker added a third for the visitors on 83 minutes.

Although Blaine Hancock pulled a goal back with two minutes remaining, Town were left celebrating their fourth win in six matches.

Selby Town were beaten 4-0 at title-chasing Retford United, whose scorers were Chris Baugh, Adam Scott (2) and Warren Hatfield.

The Robins, heading for relegation to division one, will be hoping to salvage something from their season when they travel to Nostell Miners Welfare in the League Cup third round tomorrow (7.45pm).

Scarborough Athletic lost 2-1 at home to Arnold Town, with Curtis Bernard netting for the Seadogs on 75 minutes after Arnold had led 2-0 with goals from Luke Smithson and former York City striker Martin Carruthers.

All the goals came in the closing five minutes as Harrogate Town lost 2-1 at home to Vauxhall Motors in Blue Square Bet North.

The Wetherby Roaders went behind in the 85th minute and the visitors doubled their lead in the last minute, seconds before Jonny Allen pulled a goal back.

There was no game for Harrogate Railway Athletic in Evo-Stik League division one north, but they are now only two points above the drop zone after a 3-1 win for Wakefield at basement side Cammell Laird.
