Galvanised Pickering Town are revelling in a fantastic run of form under new manager Jimmy Reid.

Now a relatively comfortable 12 points clear of the drop zone in the Northern Counties East League premier pivision, Pickering go into tomorrow’s game at Parkgate full of confidence and in a rich vein of form.

After a difficult start to the season under previous boss Pete Vasey, the Pikes found themselves at the wrong end of the table, though Jimmy Reid’s appointment has transformed the team’s fortunes as they climb up the league.

A modest Reid claimed: “It’s not all down to me. The whole club has pulled together and are doing their bit.

“My coaches have put together some excellent sessions that are as good as any I have seen as a pro.

“Everyone has raised their game and created good competition for places.”

Looking forward to important fixtures, which see Pickering tackle Parkgate tomorrow followed by home games against Tadcaster Albion (March 3) and Armthorpe Welfare (March 6), Reid said: “We sat down and talked about how we have done.

“Spirit is high and we are aiming for seven points in the next three games.”

Premier division rivals Tadcaster Albion have recently had contrasting fortunes, following what manager Paul Marshall has described as a “desperate” run of form and the once title contenders have slipped down to sixth place.

A six-game winless streak has left the Brewers manager questioning the team’s fire power.

“It’s down to a lack of goals,” he said. “This is what we need to address as even when we where on a good run of form we seemed to only be winning ones and twos.”

Tadcaster’s remaining 12 games include nine at home and Marshall claims he is confident of a turnaround in fortunes approaching the first of many home games against Long Eaton United tomorrow.

“It is a massive game,” said Marshall. “The lads don’t understand why results aren’t going our way and have had their heads down a little bit, but we are confident that we will start taking our chances and get back up the table.”
