Luck has been hard to come by for the Northern Counties East League premier division’s bottom side Selby Town – as manager Graham Hodder has found out in his short spell in charge, writes Samuel Burton.

A dozen league games without victory ended with a morale-boosting win at home to Winterton Rangers on January 28, only to have bad weather halt any momentum as three weeks passed with no game.

A poor Arnold Town side beat the Robins 4-0 at Flaxley Road last weekend, ensuring survival will be a very tough task.

Previous managers Leon Sewell and Dave Heard only spent nine and 16 games in charge, but Hodder is here for the long haul.

Secretary Tommy Arkley said: “At the moment, he’s hoping to stay (next season). Confidence is very low, but everybody feels deep down that we still have a chance of survival.”

Tomorrow, Selby travel to 17th-placed strugglers Hall Road Rangers – a match Arkley has labelled as a winnable game.

“On paper, the boys know they can do it,” said Arkley.

“They’re all upbeat about Saturday providing we get a good run of the ball, but the way we are going if we lose one goal confidence drops.”

Elsewhere, Harrogate Town will look to continue a promising run of form which has seen them win three of their last four to rise to 16th in Blue Square Bet North.

They they play host to fifth-placed Stalybridge Celtic tomorrow, who have not won in seven league games.

No win in six games has seen Harrogate Railway Athletic sink to 20th in Evo-Stik League division one north and they travel to a Mossley, who have won once in their last 11 league games.
