Huntington Rovers and York Railway Institute maintained their faint hopes of catching runaway leaders Dringhouses with victories in the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division.

With Dringhouses involved in York FA Saturday Senior Cup semi-final action, Huntington won 7-1 at home to Easingwold Town and RI edged out Tadcaster Albion ‘A’ 3-2.

Rovers duo John James and James Edmund scored two goals apiece and there were also goals from Lee Jackson, Geordie Holmes and Chris Bilton. They also missed two penalties.

Nick Thorne managed a last minute goal for Easingwold.

York RI’s goal scorers were Darren Sellars, Cameron Sanderson and Mark Woodward.

Ross Bardy and Chris Storey replied for the hosts.

At the other end of the table, York St John University lost 4-3 at Haxby United.

Goals from Gary Mitchinson, Chris Dyson and Ben James had put Haxby firmly in command.

The students came back into the game but an own goal cost them a point.

Kartiers went down 4-1 at Wilberfoss, whose marksmen were Olly Newby, Richard Tinson, Nick Diamond and Tom Robinson.

Wigginton Grasshoppers secured the division one title with a 3-1 home win over Tockwith, as nearest challengers Nestlé Rowntree lost 4-1 at home to St Clement’s.

Grasshoppers’ Luke Hall netted the only goal of the first half after nine minutes. Ten minutes from time, Mark Scoreby got the second and Hall wrapped things up.

Tockwith’s response came from the spot.

Nestlé were 1-1 at half-time when Kev Butler cancelled out Gareth Watkins’ opener for Saints.

Goals from Lewis Bootland, Scott Nicholas and Chris Rowan sealed the points for St Clement’s and left ’Trees looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack in the race for the second promotion place. Malton & Norton continued their improved form with a 2-1 win at Pocklington.

After a goalless first half, Marcus Godsell netted Malton’s first in the 50th minute, but ten minutes later Dave Snowden levelled for Pock.

Godsell snatched the winner three minutes from time.

Thorpe United’s miserable season continued as they went down 7-2 at Bishopthorpe.

Andy Hague and Chris Tate got two goals each, and the rout was completed by Owen Thomas, Rob Wright and Jason Davis.

The win took Bishopthorpe above Post Office, who now occupy the second relegation place after going down 5-0 at Hemingbrough. The Zacharenko brothers were the chief architects of their downfall. Matthew Zacharenko opened the scoring, then Guy May and Craig Haythorne added two more before Luke Zacharenko bagged two for himself.
