LEEPER Hare York and District Football League premier division champions Dringhouses began the defence of their title with a comfortable 4-2 win at Wigginton Grasshoppers.

Colin Raynor had the distinction of scoring the first goal of the 2006-07 season when he met a cross from the left and drove the ball home. A similar move ten minutes later allowed Danny Gray to double the lead but a rasping 30-yard free kick from Wigginton's Terry Taylor reduced the arrears just before the break.

A Jamie Seal penalty was sandwiched between two goals in the second period for Craig McShane, the first a header and the second from the penalty spot as Dringhouses held onto their lead.

A Brian Melia tap-in enabled Thorpe United to record their fifth straight win over visitors Dunnington.

Paul Gordon hit the post during a frantic second half which saw Dunnington unlucky not to have at least a share of the spoils.

Heslington opened their campaign with a point at Pocklington following a 2-2 draw. First-half goals from Danny Walters and Stuart Dickinson gave the premier division's new boys the advantage at the break but a lack-lustre spell after the re-start allowed Brent Terry and Robbie Pipe to level for Pock.

T & L Selby have now failed to beat Huntington in their last six meetings as the York side recorded a 3-0 victory at Selby.

Chris Johnstone slotted home a Kev Martin cross to open the scoring and early into the second half Iain Dunne rounded the home 'keeper near the touch-line and on the bye-line before scoring from an acute angle. Dunne also added the third two minutes from time.

Ashley Hill put Nestl in front five minutes before the interval in their home encounter with Old Malton but Steve Baxter marked his debut for the visitors with a cracking goal to earn the Malton side a point in a 1-1 draw.

Copmanthorpe led at the break through an Ian Charlton goal in their game at Kartiers but the Selby side scored twice early in the second half with goals from Matt Stephenson and Glen Littlewood. Cop equalised with a Terry Hibbitt penalty but James Tweddie won the game for Kartiers with a late penalty.

Malton & Norton trailed at the interval at St John's but second half strikes from Mathew El-Sharifs and Simon Collins ensured three early points for the visitors.
