PREMIER division leaders Dringhouses were thwarted by the weather and the chasing pack took full advantage in the York Minster Engineering Football League.

While ’Houses were kicking their heels on Saturday, Dunnington, Old Malton St Mary’s and York Railway Institute closed the gap.

Old Malton extended their unbeaten run to 13 matches with a 5-0 home win over Tadcaster Albion ‘A’.

John Newton gave the hosts an early lead, with Simon Cooke making it 2-0 from the penalty spot.

Newton scored his second early in the second half and the win was confirmed with Dean Nuttall and Rob Pinder both scoring in the space of two minutes midway through the second period.

Chris Burgess scored for the sixth game on the bounce as Dunnington beat Kartiers 4-0. Jimmy Wilmoth and sub Scott Sullivan completed the Dunnington scoring.

Mark Woodward’s 22nd goal of the season turned out to be the winner for York RI as they beat Easingwold 2-1. Carl Shepherd had earlier put the hosts in front.

Wilberfoss registered their first win in ten games in spectacular style as they came from 3-1 down at home to York St John to win 5-3.

James Rudd hit a hat-trick and John Heads a brace for Foss.

The top two sides were victorious in division one.

Ben Coates scored twice for leaders Wigginton in a 3-1 triumph over Bishopthorpe. Sub Ben Thompson added the third, with Owen Thomas replying for Bish.

Second-placed Nestlé beat hosts Post Office 4-0. Ken Davis opened the scoring after 12 minutes and Paul Noon headed in a second before the interval.

The visitors confirmed the win with two goals in the last seven minutes through Ross Moynihan and Davis.

Selby RSSC’s promotion hopes took a knock as they lost 1-0 at home to Pocklington.

Basement side Thorpe twice led at home to Malton & Norton but were denied their first win of the season.

Goals from Liam Burdett, Marcus Godsell and Paul Boyes secured a 3-2 win for the Ryedale side. Dean Woods hit both Thorpe goals.

Tockwith struck three times in the first ten minutes of their home encounter with Hemingbrough en route to a comfortable 5-1 win.

The hosts’ goals were shared between Jamie Perkins (2), Andy Walker and Graham Hutchison, plus an own goal. Luke Zacharenko hit Hemingbrough’s solitary reply.

Stamford Bridge beat visitors Huby 2-1 in division two.

Nick Rank gave Stamford Bridge the lead in the first half and when Jamie Rank doubled the lead their 20-match winless run was over.

Goals from Luke Laverack (2), Garth Sullivan, Ben Horsley and Lee Bunce helped Heworth defeat Ouseburn 5-1.

Ben Jones replied for home side.

The battle for honours in division three was blown wide open again after second-placed Elvington were hammered 5-0 at Fulford. Sam Harrison (2), Steve Cooper (2) and Tim Karanski netted for Fulford.

Osbaldwick suffered their first home defeat in nine games as they lost 5-1 at home to Cliffe, despite taking an lead through Mick Whitley.

Chris Jackson netted twice for Cliffe to add to goals from Alan Jackson, Will Ramsey and Kev Simpson.

Wheldrake failed to score for the fourth game on the trot but took a point from a 0-0 draw with Aviva.

Rufforth remain in the relegation zone after losing 3-2 at home to Civil Service.

Mark Atkinson and Daniel Whitcombe hit the hosts’ goals with Will Wood, Neil Hind and Chris Smith on target for Service.
