Nestlé Flag booked their place in the North Riding County Cup semi-final after a six-goal thriller at Mille Crux.
In an all-York Sunday Morning League tie, the first division high-fliers were pushed all the way by division three opponents Acomb WMC.
Within ten minutes Flag led 2-0, an advantage stretched to 3-0 by half-time.
But rather than buckle Acomb bounced back with two Danny Gray strikes to trim the deficit to just a single goal.
The visitors also hit the woodwork twice and missed several good chances before Flag broke away to kill off the tie and book their place in the last four.
The Flag marksmen were Chris Dyson (2), Craig Huggins and Lee Jackson.
