GOALKEEPER Ben Holden was the hero as St John's College won the York FA Sunday Afternoon Cup yesterday.

His save in the penalty shoot out ensured that the students beat Dunnington to become the first club to win the trophy three times on the bounce.

The first real shot on goal came from St John's player Ryan Davies after a great solo effort. A mistake by Holden let in Dunnington's Ben Norris but he shot wide.

Most of the chances were falling to Dunnington and Nick Robinson missed an open goal from ten yards out.

Dunnington did take the lead two minutes before half-time with a cracking shot by Adam Arthur.

St John's began to press in the second half and were only denied by a last-ditch tackle from Ian Burgess and two outstanding saves from Dunnington goalie Robert Hart.

With 15 minutes remaining the College team drew level with a deflected shot from Matthew Craig.

The game passed into extra-time with both sides missing easy chances but a shot by Ben McLean put St John's into a 2-1 lead.

With time running out Dunnington were awarded a penalty for handball and the spot-kick was despatched into the net by former York City player Arthur.

The penalty shoot-out followed with St John's winning 5-4 with Holden making the all-important save.

The YEP Cup was presented by Dip Patel of the York FA.
