Skelton shrugged off the 25th-minute dismissal of goalkeeper Dominic McGregor for bringing down a Wanderers attacker, to prevail in the York FA Sunday Morning Senior Cup semi-final.
An outstanding team display was produced by last season’s beaten finalists for whom Chris Holmes led the way with all five goals in Skelton’s 5-3 conquest.
The scorers for Wanderers were Adam Ferguson and Lewis Howarth, plus an own goal.
In the other semi-final, Enterprise ousted Severus 3-0.
Paul Bentley lobbed the ’keeper for the first, and, after a goalmouth melee, Chris Goulding doubled the lead.
Severus then applied pressure but with ten minutes left they were caught on the break with a fine solo goal from the halfway line by Phil Hartley.
York FA Sunday Morning Junior Cup holders Acomb WMC were soon a goal behind to a Leeman United penalty in their semi-final duel.
But Acomb quickly got in their stride and overpowered Leeman 10-3, their goals coming from Danny Gray (4), a hat-trick in five minutes from substitute Neil Ducey and one apiece for Mike O’Shaughnessey, Steve Cross and Anthony Evans.
Liam Stilgoe (2) and Joe Gaughan notched Leeman’s goals.
Trailing 3-0 to Hemingbrough strikes from Adrian Wood (2) and a Luke Zacharenko penalty, St John initiated a double recovery first through Graham Bell (2) and Adam Allcock.
Guy May restored Hemingbrough’s lead at 4-3 but, in a second stunning rally climax, St John snatched a late 5-4 victory with strikes by Jack Ward and James Sharp.
