The division three top of the table clash in the York Minster Engineering Football League between hosts Civil Service and Strensall was virtually resolved inside the first ten minutes.

Both sides were defending an unbeaten run of nine games but it was the visitors who scored twice in the opening period, Strensall never looked back and won 5-1 with goals from Mike Pipe (2), Chris Cooper, Liam Winfield and John Cooper, who scored for the sixth game on the trot. Cliffe replaced Civil Service in second slot after their 7-1 win at Selby Olympia, which included two goals each from Andy Addison and Tom Hogg.

Bishop Wilton ended a run of eight games without a win after beating Stillington 2-0 with goals from Darren Woodhead and Harry Sleightholme.

Barmby Moor kept on the fringe of the promotion chase with a 2-1 home win over Wheldrake. A Richard Tinson header cancelled out Wheldrake’s opener before Matty Beavers hit the winner ten minutes from time.

Twice, Moor Lane’s Andrew Kenyon equalised for his side at Crayke – the second an exquisite free-kick.

However, Crayke still took all the points as Ian Dawson converted a late penalty to add to Lee Cattley and Ian Dawson goals for a 3-2 win.

Old Malton maintained their unbeaten start in Reserve ‘A’ with a comfortable 5-0 home win over Bishopthorpe.

Scott Preston, scoring for the fourth straight game, led the way with a hat-trick to add to goals from Dean Nuttall and Ryan McGinty.

Wilberfoss recorded their first win of the season, downing Dunnington 4-1 with Pete Norman, Mike Gore, Dave Burrows and Danny Gore on target. Rob Hart replied.

Wigginton Grasshoppers registered their first home win in eight attempts as goals from Stuart Rice and Chris Dempsey sealed a 2-0 victory over Dringhouses.

Louis Blackwell marked his return from a lengthy lay-off to hit Kartiers’ equaliser five minutes from time in the 1-1 draw with visitors Copmanthorpe for whom Simon Hughes scored.

York RI went second in Reserve ‘B’ after hammering Stamford Bridge 8-1 through Dave McNichol (3), Mike Hartley (2), Stuart Hartley (2) and Luke Richardson. Ben Andrews replied.

Leaders Thorpe defeated Heslington 3-0 with goals from Ben Yorke, Graham Stewart and Lee Carter.

But Heworth lost ground as they were held 4-4 at Poppleton despite leading 4-1 with only quarter of an hour remaining.

Poppleton’s late goals came from Joe Vaughan, Chris Sparks (2) and George Temple, while Heworth’s tally was shared between Matty Coops (2), Gareth Sullivan and Josh Wethers.

Fulford missed the chance to go top in Reserve ‘C’ after they were held to a 2-2 draw at Huby, whose Tom Horner equalised with a last-minute penalty.

Earlier Ed Rice had put Huby in front but his goal was cancelled out by strikes from Dave Warner and Steve Cooper.

Dave Franks and Adam Harrison both scored twice as St Clement’s beat Hemingbrough 6-4.
