Tadcaster Albion manager and chairman Paul Marshall is targeting a good FA Vase run ahead of tomorrow’s second round qualifying trip to Brighouse Town.

Marshall, who took on his dual role in the summer, is keen for his side to progress as far as possible with one eye on the balance sheets as well as the football pitch these days.

Tadcaster have won their first seven fixtures of the season and currently lie top of the Northern Counties East League first division.

The financial rewards of tomorrow’s tie, though, make the game one of Albion’s most important of the season.

Marshall said: “I hope we can extend our run for at least another game, as this match is worth £900 to the winners. I have to look at things from a chairman’s point of view as well now and, with Wickham or Darlington Railway Athletic waiting for us in the next round, there’s the opportunity to get another £1,000 then.”

Tadcaster have benefited from a cash injection from Harrogate-based motivational company 2inspire this season but extra funds would be welcome as former Harrogate Railway and Goole manager Marshall looks to deliver overdue success at Ings Lane.

He said: “Our financial backers are keen for the club to get through this league. Tadcaster haven’t won a trophy in their history so it would be great to put a smile on people’s faces and for the club to make its mark.”

Marshall has added his former Harrogate Railway captain Nigel Danby to the Tadcaster squad this week.

Centre-back Danby joins the likes of Steve Jeff and Graeme Whitehead at Albion from Marshall’s NCEL premier division Goole title-winning team from four years ago.

The Brewers’ boss is delighted with his new recruit, saying: “Nigel resigned as Goole manager and played for us against Hemsworth on Tuesday night.

“He’s 36, but he wants to play for another year and it’s great to have him here. He helped guide us through in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy match against Hemsworth and he looked as fit as anybody when the game went into extra-time.”

Marshall will be without left-back Phil Biscombe, who is on police duty, while Matthew Suggitt is absent due to UEFA coaching licence commitments.

Pickering Town are also in Vase action at home to Horden Colliery Welfare with a first round proper trip to Hebburn Town or North Shields the reward for the winners.

Selby+Town%22+%2B%22Northern+Counties%22">Selby Town have received a bye to the first round and will travel to either Nelson or Abbey Hey a week tomorrow. First, they tackle Scarborough Athletic in an NCEL fourth v third premier division clash at the Queensgate Stadium.

Selby have won all five of their away fixtures this term and Athletic have a 100 per cent record from three home games.

Harrogate Town will be looking for their first back-to-back Blue Square North wins of the campaign when they play host to Stafford, while, in the UniBond League first division north, Harrogate Railway are hoping to end a run of three straight defeats at Chorley.
