Division one champions Nestlé Flag picked up where they left off last season with a 5-2 win over hosts Hounds in the York Sunday Morning Football League.

A tight first period saw both teams score twice to make it 2-2 at the break.

In the second half, Flag got the upper hand and ran in three more goals to take the points.

On target for Flag were Pete Laidlaw with a treble, plus single strikes from Jon James and Steve Fratson. Hounds replied with a brace from Michael Braithwaite.

Severus opened their account with a 2-1 win over Ainsty Panthers. Mark Triffitt gave Severus the lead before an own goal made it 2-0 to Severus at the break.

In the second half, Ainsty fought back and made it 2-1 with a goal from Rich Johnson, but stout defending from Severus saw them claim all three points.

Newly-promoted Enterprise were soon in trouble at Skelton as the Villagers hit the target four times, with Ben Janes netting twice plus single strikes from Neale Holmes and Jamie Green.

The second half saw Enterprise claw their way back into the game with goals from Chris Golding, Paul Bentley and Louis Cannon, but a strike from Chris Holmes saw Skelton win 5-3.

James Tweedie was on target for Cliffe as they went down 2-1 against visitors Derwent United.

In division two, a brace from Mark Powell plus goals from Sean Stockdale and Lee Powell saw Acomb Celtic beat Copmanthorpe 4-1. Michael Wise netted for Cop.

Albion Vaults brushed aside York Nomads 6-1 with goals by Alan Howard, Paul Tanton, Adam Durning and John Carter (3). Nomads’ goalscorer was Nathan Bradley.

Andy Thompson struck four times for Cueball but was on the losing side as they went down 7-5 to Acorn. Dave Chapman also scored for Cueball.

Chris Murcutt netted a brace and Lee Harris also scored as Marcia Grey beat Wigginton+Grasshoppers%22">Wigginton Grasshoppers 3-2. Hoppers replied with two goals from Lewis Musgrave.

Hambleton, with two goals from Nigel Croad and a Thomas Rich goal, beat Inland Revenue 3-1, whose scorer was George Trifin.

Gary Stewart scored four as Hambleton thrashed Gypsy Moth 9-1 in division three. Also on target were Ian Huddlestone (2), Jonathon Page (2) and Ash Smith.

York St John University beat Acomb Athletic 5-3 thanks to a hat-trick from Michael Warnes and a brace from Andrew Heathcote.

Athletic’s scorers were Assan Samboy, Arron North and Carl Womersley.

Bishopthorpe beat Shoulder of Mutton 4-2 with goals from Jonathon Hrycaiczuk, Stuart Auton, Andy Manns and Matty Pallister. Shoulder’s scorers were Amos Tegetmeir and James Muir.

Two goals from James Darlison gave Cawood a share of the points in a 2-2 draw with Britannia Tadcaster, who had John Seibine and Ross Bardy on target.

In division four north, Leeman Utd were 9-2 winners at Raskelf thanks to goals from Bradley Dunne (3), Joe Gaughan (2), Jamie Moore, Jack Clayton and Liam Stilgoe. Three second half goals from Kevin Rayner, Matty Horner and Danny Snaith saw Acomb WMC come back from 1-0 down against Cueball Reserves to win 3-1.

Gareth Tooley scored twice as Dinamo Megahorse beat Linton-on-Ouse 4-1, while a last minute penalty from Luke Zacharenko earned Hemingbrough a 2-2 draw at Forest.

Division four south newcomers Acomb Albion were 3-2 winners at New Earswick with goals from Ken Shephard, Steve Martin and an own goal.

Dunnington beat The Huntsman 3-1, while Fox and Turf Tavern drew 4-4.
