Selby Town’s title hopes may have died in midweek, but with second place and a cup semi-final still to fight for, there is plenty at stake for the premier division Robins.

Selby will travel to Arnold Town tomorrow, before going to Winterton Rangers in the semi-final of the Northern Counties East League Cup on Wednesday.

Assistant coach Gary Cygan said: “We still have a lot to play for. We are fighting for second place, however unlikely that is, and we also have a semi-final to play in.”

The title-crippling midweek draw with Hall Road Rangers now sees Selby looking over their shoulder, with Long Eaton United only two points behind and with two games in hand.

Cygan said: “We have been very inconsistent over the last month, as the result in midweek shows.

“We had a great result on Saturday when we turned Mickleover over and then disappointment in midweek.”

Scott Pickles, who is recovering from a broken nose, is a major doubt while Chris Kamara is definitely missing due to work commitments.

Pickering Town will be hoping to bounce back from their defeat against premier division leaders Mickleover Sports as they continue to challenge for the top nine finish which would see them qualify for next season’s President’s Cup.

The Pikes entertain Dinnington Town tomorrow and the hosts have to take something from the game in order to guarantee their top nine place.

Pickering chairman Tony Dunning said: “It will be very nice to get into the top nine.

“If we can get three points from the next two games, they will probably see us in there.”

Elsewhere, Tadcaster Albion face a battle for their NCEL division one lives, knowing that if they fail to win and Yorkshire Amateur triumph, Tadcaster will face re-election.

With just one game remaining, Tadcaster are currently two points above the drop zone with an inferior goal difference to their Amateur rivals.

Meanwhile, champions Scarborough Athletic will complete their league programme with an away match at Appleby Frodingham before the second leg of the President’s Cup final.

The tie is finely balanced after Scarborough could only return to Queensgate with a 1-1 draw against NCEL premier division outfit Nostell Miners Welfare.

In Blue Square North, Harrogate Town manager Neil Aspin is to step down after almost five years in charge.

The former Leeds United and Port Vale sentinel leaves the club with a guaranteed top-ten finish before his final game away to Gainsborough Trinity tomorrow.

Town chairman Bill Fotherby said: “We wish Neil all the best for the future and we are sure that if he gives the same commitment to his next club as he has done to Harrogate Town, then he will be a great success.”

Harrogate Railway will complete their UniBond League division one north fixtures when Warrington Town visit Station View. With only pride to play for, The Rail will be hoping to build momentum for the start of next season.
