FLYING high in the Northern Counties East League premier division, Selby Town are only three points behind league leaders Mickleover Sports, who they come face to face with in a potential league title decider next week.

But first Selby have the little matter of tackling strugglers Brodsworth Miners Welfare tomorrow.

Second-placed Selby, who beat Armthorpe 1-0 in midweek with an Andrew Hart penalty, will be missing Scott Price who broke his nose in the game, but there could be a boost with the return of striker Brenton Liester.

Said Selby assistant manager Gary Cygan: “Were hopeful of having Brenton back this weekend. He’s missed the past few weeks with an ankle injury. But regardless of injuries, as long as we play to our potential and perform how we know we can we should get all three points at Brodsworth.”

Pickering Town, who started the year challenging for the title, have slipped off the pace and now sit sixth.

In midweek, the Pikes defeated division one outfit Rainworth Miners Welfare 3-0 in the League Cup.

This would have been the perfect time to take the momentum of that into the league, but the Pikes have no game this weekend.

Tadcaster Albion will be hoping veteran striker Darren Wilson again demonstrates the poacher’s art when they entertain Bottesford Town in the NCEL first division tomorrow.

The 35-year-old Wilson showed there was life in his veteran legs during midweek when he hit a hat-trick to inspire Albion to a 3-2 win over fifth-placed Barton Town Old Boys.

That lifted Albion away from the lower reaches of the table and they will be hoping to remain suitably inspired for the visit of Bottesford to Ings Lane.

Runaway champions Scarborough, who have 88 points from 34 games, are without a fixture this weekend.

Blue Square North’s Harrogate Town face a trip to the league’s bottom club, Hucknall Town.

Harrogate, who cemented eighth place with a convincing 3-1 win at AFC Telford, will be looking to Richard Marshall and James Dean to add to their season’s combined 21-goal tally and keep alive Harrogate’s slim play-off hopes.

But Town manager Neil Aspin will need his defensive unit to be at its strongest to keep Hucknall’s Laurie Wilson at bay. Struggling Harrogate Railway Athletic were hosting Garforth Town today at Station View.

Harrogate, who have hit a good patch of form recently including beating Bamber Bridge 3-2, need the three points to drag them away from the UniBond League division one North relegation zone.
