RESURGENT Tadcaster Albion have been set a tenth place target in Northern Counties East League division one.

There is a ten-point split between the top eight and the rest, and manager Paul Marshall wants his side to head the “second division”.

Albion travel to third-placed Pontefract Collieries tomorrow aiming to prove Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat at Grimsby Borough was a blip.

“We have set a target of tenth place and ninth could also be within our grasp,” said Marshall.

“You can’t get any higher than that because there are two divisions within a division now.

“We are around half way at the moment and, hopefully, we can finish top of ‘division two’.”

He added: “When I came in, I wanted to consolidate this season and keep the club in a reasonable financial state.

“It was tough when we started, so it would be nice to finish in mid-table.”

Albion have lost the services of right-back Matthew Suggitt, who is spending six months coaching young footballers in Mexico.

Marshall said: “He’s been a shining light for us this year – he was doing really well. It’s a good move for him, but not for us.”

Defender Ryan Watson is still making his way back from knee surgery, while Mark Willoughby is also struggling with a knee problem.

Much of Marshall’s attention is focused on next weekend’s home clash with runaway leaders Scarborough Athletic, which is expected to attract a large crowd.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the game – or helping out behind the scenes – should phone Marshall on 07949 452054.

Scarborough, who are nine points clear at the top of division one, travel to Bideford tomorrow in the fourth round of the FA Vase.

Meanwhile, Selby Town will be aiming to maintain their NCEL premier division promotion push at home to Liversedge tomorrow after a 3-0 victory at Maltby Main on Wednesday.

Leigh Wood and Brenton Leister added to an own goal as the Robins moved to within three points of leaders Mickleover Sports, having played a game more.

Goalkeeper Adam Mitchell kept a clean sheet on his return to the side and he will be looking for more of the same at Flaxley Road tomorrow.

Pickering, who share the same points tally as the Robins, are aware of the challenge as they prepare to entertain Nostell Miners Welfare.

Said manager Mark Wood: “It’s getting really tight in the top six with Selby winning in midweek so this is a very important game for us.

“Nostell are a good side and it will be tough, although we did get a good win at their place earlier in the season.”

Defender Michael McNaughton is unavailable due to work commitments and Mark Swales is out with a hamstring problem.

Harrogate Town visit eighth-placed Alfreton Town keen to hang on to the last promotion slot in Blue Square North, while Harrogate Railway Athletic – two places off the UniBond League first division North anchor berth – entertain Clitheroe.
