TADCASTER Albion have appointed former Harrogate Railway and Goole boss Paul Marshall as their new manager.

Marshall will replace Jimmy Reid, who was dismissed at the end of a difficult Northern Counties East League campaign.

The Ings Lane club finished sixth bottom in the first division during a season in which funding problems were exacerbated by fire and flood damage to the clubhouse.

Albion chairman Kevin Derry is hoping that the recruitment of York-based Marshall, whose CV boasts a second round FA Cup appearance against Bristol City while in charge of Railway and an NCEL championship in his first season with Goole, will signal a reversal in fortunes at the club.

Derry said: "Paul wanted to join a club for a bit of fun and great success so we are well-suited because we are a club that needs a smile back on its face after all the hassle of the last 12 months and that's not deriding anybody who has worked for the club during that time. We're just taking a fresh approach because we want to create a football club again.

"Paul is a quality manager who we didn't think we'd get to be honest. We have the best facilities in the area - a nice pitch and a good clubhouse. All we need now is a fair wind and getting Paul could be the first gust."

Albion fielded a very young side during 2007/08 as a withdrawal in funding, described as "internal problems" by Derry, led to a struggle in attracting senior semi-professional players to the club.

Derry is hoping that members of last season's squad will still be considered for selection while Marshall also looks to strengthen by bringing in several new faces.

He said: "We want last season's players to come back and give it a go but it's entirely up to Paul how he works it. We don't interfere and never have done.

"We've got to be ambitious and hopefully Paul can deliver promotion but we're not setting any targets."

Former Pickering Town boss Reid worked with Marshall at Goole and Derry expressed his gratitude towards Albion's outgoing manager, saying: "We can only thank him for his efforts. Circumstances were dictated by the success or failure of last season.

"Jimmy was hamstrung but we couldn't do anything about it and we've made decisions after surviving the season. He put in a lot of hard work and did a lot of good things so I'd like to wish him all the success he will no doubt have wherever he goes."
