FOLLOWING a short break York Schoolboys Under-12s returned to action against Scarborough in the final of the MD Trophy.

York started strongly and took the lead within the first couple of minutes when Liam Mainprize cut the ball back from the byline for striker Ronnie Kelly to steer his shot home.

York continued to apply the pressure and extended their lead in the fifth minute when Kelly finished calmly again.

Late in the second period, a Ben Myers corner eventually fell to Mainprize, who struck the loose ball into the bottom corner to make the score 3-0.

York extended that advantage in the third period when Ryan Evans' long-range effort was spilled by the keeper, allowing Kelly to score from a tight angle to complete his hat-trick.

Mainprize and Evans – from the penalty spot – added goals five and six before York eased off, allowing Scarborough to net twice and make the final score 6-2.

York Under-15s entertained Spen Valley in their first game for over a month.

York dominated the early stages and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

A cross from Charlie Fort found Elliot Oliver in space. Oliver brought the ball down neatly, turned and hit a first time shot into the roof of the net.

It was 2-0 in the 21st minute when a free-kick delivered by Ben Calam from the left caused a goalmouth scramble that resulted in the Spen keeper clearing the ball against one of his defenders with the rebound crossing the line.

Spen pulled a goal back in the second half when a rash York challenge resulted in a penalty, which the Valley forward hit low and hard under the diving Joseph Hodge.

However, a free-kick delivered from the right by Liam White was headed on to the back post by Kieran Ledger and then despatched into the roof of the net by Fort to make the final score 3-1 in York's favour.
